Hum. I every enemy Eugene has fought so far has been able to take many lethal (realistically) blows. Yet here he’s still thinking that this seasoned combat mage would be hurt from one of his attacks.

Mate u could probably cut his head off and he’d still be fine, if the in-universe logic so far is anything to go by

So seems less likely now that the poor kid who got killed was just a fake out to test them if the teacher was about the kill that one girl too just because she...was going to kill him(which would be valid in the situation)? >.>

Maybe he didn't go for the vitals. There might still be something along the lines of "be ready to kill" but not "be eager to kill".

Oh, I've been thinking it's more likely now that that one kid was a fake out, he wants to kill that girl because she's possibly going to become a mass murderer with that attitude (those are not "kill for survival" attacks, they're "delight in killing" ones), first kid was just "too soft" and definitely not a threat.
I think this test doesn't just weed out the weak but also finds those who have a chance of turning to the abyss.
