Where do all these isekai MCs get all these knowledge of how to make shit? Do they spend their free time reading Wikipedia or something?

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I don't have any knowledge of how to make anything I have seen these MCs come up with in all these stories and I always assumed your average person wouldn't know it either.

I know some bizarre things that I would never need to know... unless I got hit by a truck and transported to some backward world with the maturity of only a hundred or so years old that was off handily created by a god too lazy to wait a few million years for life to get its act together.

Obviously, they get their knowledge from reading isekai stories. All isekai MC know that isekai is a popular theme right now, which means they all studied other isekai MCs.

The real question is, why did he not take a bath with her? They both obviously need one. Soap was just invented after all.

@Acolytus people can know some random things, isekais of course overdo it by a lot,
but its not like its impossible to bring some knowledge over.

For example I couldnt make soap or any of that jazz,
but I could build a composite bow or some rudimentary machinery

You kinda learn it in middle school at chemistry lessons here ,where I live...
Its just was sooo long ago for me that I forgot how to do it.

@Argolok

I think it's much more because Japanese ppl have cooking & homework classes in school for everyone where they learn things for daily life...

@GodGinrai, I'm not sure, from what I've seen (again from a quick visit to Wikipedia) the history between soap and baking soda doesn't share many correlations, so in an alternate world I guess it is possible for either to come up first

oh its the obligatory "The highschooler knows how to make common item X that no one else in the world knows how to make" chapter.
The last 2 chapters have filled the bingo card of this series so damn fast.

Keep in mind, all you naysayers, most people over 70 years old were around when you needed to know all this stuff.
I learned how to make soap and jar jam from my grandparents as an excuse for the grandkids to spend time with them.

Also, I'd expect the lack of soap is more the orphaned 4-year-old not having access to it that it not being invented. Everyday lifesytle magic could be a reason too. No need for soap if literally every adult knows Prestidigitation.

All the naysayers that apparently only know how to buy things and not make them.
Wait until they find out that sauerkraut is literally just cabbage submerged in brine for a week or so.

No, the really irritating examples are those where the materials or technologies needed far outstrip those available in the setting.
But what should I expect from the type of people (isekai authors) that think that the katana is the bestest sword to ever sword? Especially that guy that thinks it'd be a good idea to use one primarily for thrusting...

I mean, I know a bunch of useless knowledge because I played dwarf fortress too much. Things like how to make lye and potash because I got sucked into the internet after reading about it.

It isn't that far off to know how to make primitive items. What is an issue is when they take it too far and either know EVERY invention up to the 1500s, or when the MC(s) build modern machines and the like that you wouldn't have the tools or expertise to make.

@Jergens My issue has always been how they can remember every detail so well, I can only remember something like that if I memorize it through repetition.

@gaigous True, but everyone learns differently. Like the one person said they learned some things from their grandparents; you can remember things from doing it once if the learning experience was prominent enough. And others can only learn through repetition and drilling.
It is never covered in any of these Isekai how the MC(s) learned this information, only that they know it when it is convenient. Its just a deus ex machina; it adds cute little moments when used sparsely but overuse leads to boring MCs that know everything because they have built in Wikipedia.

@Jergens Yeah, I wish the ones that overuse the trope had photographic/eidetic memory or something, but to the well-written ones, more power to them.
