I understand that the Guardians have way more experience and passed through a lot of dire situations, but at the same time, it's not a win or die situation, it's a tournament.
With that speech he gave her, all that he's teaching her is to not hesitate, no matter what. That can backfire easily.

If, next time, if they are on the exact same situation, she will probably cut his dominant arm, and put him out of commission, without any hesitation.

I know it won't happen, this happened because of the lack of experience from Redline, but this execution gave a really bad taste.

Oh, they don't just win due to plot armor, and actually lose to more skilled opponents that aren't overpowered villains? Pleasant surprise right there.
They lost to weaponized edgelordiness and disregard for the rules. The moment they knight guy lost all weapons there, he should have been declared unable to fight. Instead he went "If you don't kill me outright I can still sneak attack!" which is nonsense in a competition fight, where you're not supposed to go for the kill. Also, the magician girl is absolutely OP, she casually did things that were supposed to be impossible. Granted, them not lunging for her at the very start was dumb no matter the approach.

I mostly agree, but in a world with magical remedies and healing spells, both sides could go much harder in a controlled environment. So as long as they don't kill one another, there is a good chance for them to make a recovery.
