I mean they do have a mixed bath culture. While not as prevalent in cities or more modern generations. Remember that were in a very rural area, that still had land mines. Those areas are far less modern and tend to still stick to older traditions. Also unclear what year they started in.

I know it probably won't be the case, but I hope he keeps up the cold attitude towards the boss catgirl (Edit: Right, her name's Savanna. I forgot). Like, it'd be super interesting to see if later on, as she (inevitably, c'mon we all know how this goes) catches feelings for him, he continues to be cold to her due to her initial cruel attitude towards him, his students, and the other humans (especially the sister look-alike).

It would be a nice bit of consequence for the way she treated them, especially as he forms emotional connections with girls other than her.
