I'm sure that ring does nothing and the MC was just bluffing.
MC doesn't actually benefit from Lunatic being killed in a situation where he'd already be dead.
As long as Lunatic believes it to be true it's good enough and it plays into the theme of a powerless MC winning by outsmarting everyone.
