I'm not super surprised that she's quick to believe his story. She's an A-rank adventurer herself, so she's definitely seen weird stuff before.
And she's clearly someone who just go s with the flow, like "staying in a hole because of a feeling like she should wait there".

The first few chapters were pretty meh, but a murder mystery of the MC's body is actually a somewhat interesting plot point. Lets see if they carry on or fumble.

An unlikely explanation that would have been cool:
The original's soul gets weakened post death general fight.
He gets attacked where bloodies the dagger and clothes while fighting and faints from exhaustion.
He is now vulnerable to possession.
MC has a stronger soul, so the original's soul gets subsumed or ejected, which is a case of murder.

I have a feeling she was in some way involved with the previous holder of the body. She has made a couple comments about his scent being familiar and was unusually found just waiting at the bottom of a hole in the ground.

While I'm fine with slice-of-life travel manga, having a sub-plot/mystery makes it so much more enjoyable to me. So I was already picking up on "this situation is odd..." with Chapter 1, I'm glad they're leaning into the mystery without seeming to make it too overbearing where the "travel guide" aspect takes a backseat

Guild girl is pretty and to no surprise, has great personality. I think even the Death General had great personality.

I suspect that he was killed by a curse of the Demon General, or one of her subordinates, or he never killed her and that was only a misconception.
He asked if she had soul magic, so perhaps she does, and she possessed someone else's body (the person he was looking for), and had his soul pulled out of his body in the fight, which caused MC to become a possessor.

I'm sure the actual solution is quite that interesting, though.
