Always eat that buttered snail together with a hard drink. Good and beer cleans the mud taste from the gastropod. We'll recently these snails are having mercury in their diets.....

Meh, they're mainly a garlic butter delivery method, and when it comes to those, garlic bread will always reign superior. No mercury, either.

I mean... I did? In the last two pages he dives into a small back alley to meet up with our buddy boy in "secret", transforms into an animal, and then they go to the restaurant. Unless I'm missing something crucial it certainly looks like he's still keeping up appearances. =/

I wasn't trying to act smart either, I was genuinely confused.

I was talking about the royal knight. But the mage also cared about how others looked at him. At the end of the chapter, the mage become a frequent customer of the shop (also mean that he stopped eating "refined food" at high class place or something to keep appearance)

Ah, makes more sense now, thanks for the reply! Misunderstandings in text happen all the time, no harm done. =)

I slightly disagree on the last part w.r.t. the mage, he is surely a regular now, and doesn't care about the look of things while in the restaurant, but he seems to still care about keeping up appearances for people unrelated to that. I'm sure he doesn't eat all his meals at the restaurant too, since he needs to meet up with the knight to snuggle himself in as an animal. =)
