I've never heard that story in my life. A fish living in that man's stomach and drinking the alcohol that the man drinks? Fucking weird.
I mean, other than that 'drink like a fish' metaphor, the person saying it is a 'story collector'/from a fictional place rather than them basing it on some JP yokai legend versus it being something like a tapeworm that'd always make you thirsty
if not it all being for that joke at the end
酒魚, sakesakana? i guess it rolls off the tongue nicely.

If pokemon was more teenage/young adult aimed, it would be an interesting design lol

Could be a con? It did mention that the monk is fake, so he’s a charlatan or quack doctor who’s prolly trying to magic trick his way into getting rep and money. The alcoholic prolly got a shock treatment that gave him a mental block against booze from that.

There are weirder folk tales, trust me. Try Monogatari series. It features “Crab that steals weight” or “Snail that makes you constantly lost.”

Disappointed that it’s not a real fish… or some type of cooking. I thought they will soak a fish in wine or some type of alcohol. I think I have seen this style of cooking in another manga

well, it was hot. he was tied, and the monk "massaged" his stomach. i don't think it will feel good. and all the while there's always a scent of wine.

it's very possible that he associated the wine smell with nausea.
