Edwin is absolutely a godsend. Man is so influential that you can easily tell he was the root of all things that happened on the story.

I think he's already reached his peak and now he like to spent his time in peace. (correct me if im wrong but didn't edwin a big man in the Church spy thing? he's also capable of reaching the cardinal without any fuss)

He did reach the Cardinal indeed! But both Ingrid and Rodrigo mention he should be high up in the ranks, so it's rather mysterious as to why he's a simple deacon.

But, the simplest answer may be the correct one!! Edwin wanted to indulge once he felt fulfilled and now he is who he is!
