My prediction (note I've never read the LN):

[ul][li]Dibel taunts Almus further and further;[/li]
[li]Almus almost falls for the trap, but keeps his head cool;[/li]
[li]Dibel gets impatient and declares war, against Bernard's advice;[/li]
[li]Dibel's gets killed in the subsequent war trying to do some foul manoeuvre;[/li]
[li]Dibel's territory gets incorporated into Ash's;[/li]
[li]Bernard decides to work for Almus because, unlike Dibel, Almus is not an idiot;[/li]
[li]King Rosice peacefully dies.[/li]
[li]Arc ends. The next arc will deal with the marriage and the first steps of Almus as a king.[/li][/ul]

@Zarabas : If you missed my edit in my earlier post
Almost that.

He basically insulted Rigar as a coward then run into the river, because he knew that if he escape then Rigar would be so pissed that he'll punish Gilbert for allowing him to get away.

So Gilbert hastily order the archer to shoot him down.

And just as he planned, one of the arrow almost hit Almus, which give the Ash army all the justification to act.

And he does die, so the archers do succeed at killing him.

The Refugees are escaping from other territories! Start the border patrol! HEY! Build the wall, and keep them out! Prepare the M4s and shoot the Cartels, and make the outside territories pay for it! New "Build a Wall" collection from Lego City.

@Fwaifuxsenpai yeah…, cuz shooting refugees on sight and preventing the free movement of people isn't totally a sign of tyranny or oppression, or a violation of international law…🤔😂🤦🤦‍♂️

@Sonic Thanks for the update!

@WhimsiCat
Assuming that his actions were planned by him and he on what his actions may spark, that's an incredibly brave and we'll thought out plan despite the high chance of death. Dibel shows himself to be a hotheaded moron who ultimately be himself killed by this very tyranny. Though, I guess if he loved his people better, he'd bother working with Ash to seek towards the betterment of his people as opposed to try to crush them under boot. If that kid really thought that far ahead and lives, you know that he'll probably join team Ash.

I'm rather surprised at all the heart targeting. You'd think that they'd injure them & bring them back as slaves. Dibel really lacks any wisdom even as a tyrant. 🤦🤦‍♂️

@lvxferre presuming that Dibel doesn't use him as a meat shield. It's times like these that one wishes for a Mass Resurrection spell. Heh. Genocide ≠ fun/a good time.

This whole episode is the definition of a clusterfuck.

In Marine terminology, this would be a Mongolian Clusterfuck, but given the US tactics since WWII (at least), I feel like "American" Clusterfuck is a far more apt rendering given that despite the military tactics of the Mongolian hordes (very Dibel-esque), I'd wager that we've managed to outdo them in terms of the shear bombasity of our clusterfuckery. Mind you, this is merely my educated layman's opinion/perspecti"e.

o_O my o ly thought is why are the refugees crossing here if there is a huge military force and barricades... why not just move a mile or two up river and cross there? Sure you might have to walk the mile or so back up the river on the other side, but sure beats forcing your way thrue an army set up to stop you.

And yes I realize that this is likely the only shallow crossing for miles, but between people trying to actively kill you and crossing in a place you have to swim is completely different. Babies and the elderly? Use a few waterskins as flotation devices. Sure it's not perfect, but it's better then being stabbed/enslaved.

@Fwaifuxsenpai I was being sarcastic. Plus, history has show that when faced with the difficult situations such as that described, one ends up with a massacre rather than a clear fight.

Likewise, wouldn't they want as many refugees to weaken Dibel's territory? Done is killing these people for escaping because fewer people = fewer conscripts, fewer laborer to harvest the land, fewer people to tax, less wealth for him to exploit, and thus less power for him to thrust about in his aims to obtain more power.

It would be in Ash's territorial advantage to seek to obtain as many refugees as they can feed as their labor would dramatically increase—particularly, if Ash territory educates them—by teaching them maths, languages, military & engineering strategies, more things etc., each person becomes a boon to the labor capital of that territory. The only major issues are if the physical resources become overtaxed, if unresolvable cultural differences crop up, if problems resulting from a low wage culture of exploitation crop up (at this point, things are mostly communal, so that seems unlikely), or some related circumstances that weaken matters. However, there are clear reasons why Dibel is so afraid of losing these people in a mass Exodus (beyond simply his pride).

That said, I figured that you were being sarcastic so I in turn was being sarcastic. Dibel is butchering people after all. Heh.

I doubt they’d put up a better fight than Ferme, in fact...
I’m pretty sure they get caught and decapitated.

When there are a thousand refuges against a thousand trained soldiers, can the refuges actually do anything at all??
If they are lucky they will be able to hurt a few soldiers with stones, but I doubt they would be able to break through the soldiers line...

I know I'm a bit heartless and hard on the refugees here, but it is them, who directly run into the forces of their enemy. Nobody right in their mind should expect them to get any help in this kind of situation, if they don't act first. Either they have to go back, secretly circumvent the blockage or make a break for the border through it. But even in the later case, they shouldn't expect to be greeted with anything else, than hostility by Almus forces, too. (It is thinkable, that even a neighboring lord, you want to flee to, would give that order to avoid a war.) It is one thing, if one's life it threatened, but it is another if you also brought the immediate danger onto yourself (no matter if the reason is to escape persecution or not) AND expect others to lose their life in turn to save you from that kind of situation.

They fooled themselves into believing there is an easy solution for their problem (wise ruler Almus, with shit tons of mighty, immortal solders and free land, just over that river, that will surely take them in), risked everything and now can't coop with the outcome. (In their shoes I might have done the same (fleeing the Diebel territory), though I want to believe I would have taken another route, as soon as it become clear it doesn't work out.)
