they got married in oriemo. at least in the novel they did. i think i heard they became step siblings in a different adaptation but still got married or whatever but it ended in them immediately divorcing because they thought it was weird. actually i don't remember in which adaptation they divorce in but the point is they did get together despite being blood related. lot's of people were not happy with either version of the ending. on the one hand you have the fact they got the law changed within their world to allow their marriage and on the other you have the fact they divorced because they thought "holy fuck incest is icky after all" after everything they did. both endings are just fucking stupid. easily the series with one of the most hated endings in japanese fictional media. if oriemo was even remotely more popular or had it come out during the anime mainstream boom it would easily surpass aot's ending hatred.
