My main issue is not with the handling of the pun. After thinking about it some, I couldn't think of anything to maintain it either. (Tho I would've expressed things more clearly.) My main issue is with their (un)translation of “カリフック” as “Cali Hook”. “カリ” means “(penis) head”. Did you understand that from “Cali”? The move should be called “Head Hook”. It's a sex term. As for the “temporary” pun, there's maybe something you could do with “head”, but that's whatever.
