I need to read the source but so far this series makes no sense. MC comes in and is OP as fuck, then literally a chapter later he's one of the weakest people. These inconsistencies really make it seems like we're reading two separate stories.

Basically similar to the way some elements are strong and weak to each other (example fire vs water) in this series there are also schools of magic that are strong an weak to each other. I agree it was intentionally presented in a way that adds tension but basically he hasn't figured out the right combination of elements and school of magic that is strong against the demos of this world yet, since they function under different laws than the ones he is familiar with. This is a trick they use a couple more times in the LN against future enemies, but it still manages to remain tense because he doesnt always have the luxery of time to figure it out. In the next chapter or 2 he ends up getting PLENTY of opportunities to experiment and by the end is just as OP as he always was

This is just off the top of my head, so I may get some stuff wrong. Also, it's been a while since I actually read this, so I don't exactly remember people's names:

Reiji:

court mage, half-spirit chick, hero of the union/alliance of sovereign states (can't remember if that's actually what it's called) (more on her in the super spoiler), possibly the mage that's in the alliance hero's party, and maybe one or two more that I missed. On Earth it seems like he may have around 4 more, including a homunculus (his assistant/student that's been mentioned a couple times). I only read the LN though, so none of that is confirmed.

at one point she gets possessed by some mysterious spirit that on the surface just appeared to Suimei and Reiji to be her reverting back to her chuu2 period (I think the spirit's name is even the one Mizuki used back on Earth, so that's spooky). Rather than a shared conscience type deal, while one mind is awake and in control, the other is asleep and is thus unaware of what is going on around her. When the spirit meets Suimei, he doesn't believe that she is actually a spirit until it reveals that it knew things that Mizuki shouldn't: namely that he messed with Mizuki's mind back on Earth. Originally Mizuki loved Suimei, as he was her first friend and saved her when she got in trouble. However, because he didn't want to risk getting her involved in the world of magic, he manipulated her memories/feelings to be redirected towards Reiji. It's unclear if/when Mizuki will learn this herself and how she will react.

Alliance Hero:

Turns out she is actually Suimei's cousin/childhood friend whose family ran the dojo where he learned to sword. Their clan has a super secret sword style that is meant for fighting demons and other spooky stuff with invisible swords n shit, and she of course is a very proficient swordperson. Her and Suimei were very close, especially after his Dad died and he was living by himself. She was summoned by the alliance as a hero presumably around the same time as Suimei and the gang were, but did not have any memories aside from her name. Nominally this was due to an accident during the summoning, but there's a slight possibility that it was intentionally done by the Alliance to have greater control over her. Anyways, she initially stays shut in her room scared and confused, but when the demons invade she gets a few glimpses of her memories, which were mainly Suimei (she doesn't remember who he is) saying some typical shonen MC "i'll save everyone!!1!" shit, and resolves to fight (incidentally those words were originally what inspired her to seriously grind her swordsmanship back on Earth). She then proceeds to fuck shit up with her mad skills and superior nipponese mythril katana. She apparently has the weakest blessing from the Goddess out of all the summoned heroes (ie cheat stats/abilities), and still solos one of the demon generals (though it could be seen as him jobbing), so she's pretty strong. I'm also pretty sure she doesn't/can't even use magic, but she still uses qi/fighting spirit to help pull off some sword bs. Eventually Suimei arrives, shenanigans ensue, and she ultimately regains her memories and begins to awaken feelings for Suimei beyond familial ones (it's pretty obv that she was unconsciously lusting for his secret sauce all along, as all cousins do). Also, for all you nerds who read all this shit but aren't accustomed to wincest, iirc, first cousins in Japan can legally marry, so don't think too much about it .

Some non-harem spoiler because why not lol (inb4 banned):
For those who are mad at how Reiji immediately accepted fighting the demons,

it's implied that he and the other heroes may not have complete agency over their actions and may in fact be under the influence of the Goddess. This influence could possibly correlate with the strength of blessing received, of which Reiji appears to have the strongest of. He realizes that he shouldn't have accepted immediately, but he still thinks that it was the right choice regardless of whether or not he was actually making his own decisions (he's a classic nice guy after all).

Sorry for the eye cancerous essay. Also FYI, the LN has been on an indefinite hiatus for a while now, so I if you're like me and get kind of addicted to reading everything at once, I wouldn't recommend doing so at least until word gets out on when volume 9 is supposed to release. Volume 8 ended with

Everyone, I would suggest waiting for JNC. They have officially licensed it and the translator is Hikoki, the one who originally fan translated the LN. It is in good hands. They can be trusted. It is licensed and this series requires a good translator. I have just started out and I don't think I can make much of an impact translating this very complex sentence structure of a series. Right now, the series is at chapter 4 by JNC.
