They're his subordinates and so far, it's been shown that their abilities far outweigh the abilities in this world when Eltina killed the hound creature easily with what MC called basic magic in their game and the half-elf princess called high magic in this world. Imagine when MC's companions used "high magic" or "advanced magic" from the game world. To be fair to your complaint, MC is winging it here and didn't realize that the way he worded his order to them they'd interpret it as him going on the expedition with him, so, he just went with it rather than shifting his orders around and bringing more people. Which would've made more sense if the king of a nation were going on an expedition, but at the same time, so does this, because now he can pretend to be travelers or adventurers or something so the author can drag this out until the author wants to show the half-elves that MC is the leader of a powerful nation.
