I was expecting dadavis and the gang to be more big and muscular. Not pretty bois. Maybe the difference will be more prominent when they stand side by side with akira. Cuz in the novel, the beastkins were describe as big and muscular. At least by Akira's pov. Cuz he's the smallest amongst those walking with two legs, except the gollems.

not to victim blame but maybe that's how so many beast kin got enslaved to begin with

Nono, in the novel, it was more intense. We can feel how on guard everyone are. And they elaborate more on why the need of them being in that forest despite everything.
