japanese rice is a bit sweet as it bit of sticky meaning it has higher starch content.Feels like something valuable that a noble or other person might see/capture/take advantage no so hopefully smart enough to hide and no bs misunderstandings of “you have something too nice for the slums you must have stolen it”
Ah Japanese rice supremacy already, always feel like I’m being pitched an ad, bc even as an Asian myself(tho I grew up in the south) I can’t imagine having it with meat , even with fried rice I’d want a little egg mixed in
(the “brand”/flavoring parents get is jasmine rice tho idk if I rly tasted anything distinct in that and I tolerate parents jasmine tea but I don’t rly like it all that much (tho I have had “tasteless” yellow rice as a side from a cafe once despite ppl saying that some other colors are flavorful, which is odd bc that cafes fried rice is usually good), tho I do hear that for for cooking adding like a cup of chicken stock can add to it rather than just water
sticky rice is sweet and you can eat it by itself.
for fried rice, jasmine rice is superior one as it less sticky but chewy ,easy to crumble up during cooking. its also have better absorbing and coated by flavor.
Basmati rice is long and its grain able to absorb more water without being mushy, broken or clumping. thus it best to make briyani, pilaf like dishes as it can absorb those spice and herb without being a mush.
if you want cook rice and put chicken stock, coconut milk or butter with light but aromatic spice, jasmine rice is right choice. Chicken rice is made using Jasmine rice, a rice is cooked with chicken stock, ginger, garlic and pandan leaves for aroma.
not all rice are equal and can be use for similar dishes.for example , you can't make risotto with Japanese or jasmine, it must be made with arborio rice.
