Nah, I'm a huge fan of slice of life stuff. One of the key elements to slice of life is engaging characters with fun personalities. The format of this makes that impossible. So it really fails as slice of life. It's more of...mass produced machine-sliced loaves of life. There's quantity but no flavor.Woo! Go Team Kuro!
See, thata the problem there. The anime was trash that tried turning the story into every generic isekai with over the top action scenes. I suggest you stop reading the manga if that's what you're here for. The manga is a slice of life that's ACTUALLY a slice of life. Super comfy
The anime couldn't get away with the terrible pacing of a log book and had to create a bit more depth and personality to work as a show. That improved things. But it still didn't have much to base it on. And the initial development of the town was fun, but at this point nothing is really interesting or impressive. It was fun seeing it get acknowledged internationally, but since then it's just been people stopping by and saying hi.
And so time has just been wasted with yearly competitions. There doesn't need to be a plot if the things that occur are entertaining, but is it really entertaining to basically read an arbitrary score sheet? There's no sense of beauty or comedy or intrigue or character growth or anything that makes a slice of life worth reading. So we get none of that AND no plot.
