Right now it just feels like the mangaka makes these because he has to under contract, not much passion left here.
I've felt that way for about 200 chapters. For a long, long time, this has been one of the lowest effort manga around. The imported backgrounds, the characters being drawn simply and in the same pose, copy and pasted, the use of tons of narration so as to avoid the need for sorting out proper dialogue paneling and positioning...so many things.
The only reason I don't totally blame the artist is knowing that the original WN was somehow even lazier, and that's where all the tell-don't-show comes from. Which is also why the anime is the least bad version, because you just can't get away with so much; you
have to show some motion and interaction.
Even so, the way the plot is just an endless interleaving of inconsequential filler tournament and festival arcs means this is doomed to be boring regardless.
