also, uncle being the only asian that most fantasy world people have seen (as far as we know) doesn't mean they typecast the entire asian race - nothing suggests they think all Nihon Bahamal people are ugly, they just think uncle the individual is ugly.

Granted it was 400 years prior to the current story, but we know Mabel’s ancestor was also from Japan, and he seems fondly remembered as a hero, a lauded founder of the bathhouse, and was clearly good looking enough to have found (presumably) a wife and had children to start the lineage leading to Mabel.

Magatsu was also from Japan and in their flashback scenes we don’t see any reactions that suggest they were considered particularly ugly.

The start of chapter seems like a bit of a "retcon" mostly to fix the inconstancy from the early part of manga... consequence of manga's story and art style being a lil bit too unhinged. Still tbf, Uncle's face is still extremely out of place for the other world anyway

yeah. the author must be had a struggle drawing handsome men. the handsome men's face never drawn looking aside. that maybe a joke he intended to do. but it was weird
