I'll throw out a guess and it could be that Rorouni Kenshin movie where it turns dark, opposite from the tone of the original series. Or Gate Keepers 21, which pointlessly turned the setting tragic and killed off some important characters.

For my example of a series like that although it's already kinda dark... Jujutsu Kaisen.

The game version ends with a happily ever after. However, the game creator, Curry I think his name is, wanted to make the story (anime version) far darker then Madoka Magica. But the way he does it in the anime completely breaks the rules he set forward in that world. And they way it ends, everyone loses and the world ends back to the status quo. And to add insult to injury, that timeline that they are in, gets erased, so basically, all of it was for nothing.

That takafumi rant seems like a hint from the author, its like he is saying that this story wont end in tragedy, or maybe its the exact opposite and the author is trying to say that no matter what we cant escape reality, it will always hit us eventually.

After all, uncle and Takafumi both chose to erase their memory at the beginning of the manga because of how awful the other world was. Although, the events erased are supposed to be as atrocious as Sega quitting the console making. So, how awful are they really? Now that's a good question.

But I'm more interested in that new enemy. Apparently, they come from Yamato, so Japan, and when presented with a wish by the goddess, they chose the power to rule for eternity.

I think there are plenty of us who thought it was a sad ending in the isekai world simply because uncle is back and left his friends behind. Maybe he decided to come back because Elf san and lazy ass died

Well it's Madoka so some darkness is to be expected. Breaking the world's internal rules though, is not acceptable from a writing standpoint.

I'm a bit annoyed that even in Japan, video game adaptations can be shitty.
