That's what I meant though. If the switch board ain't broken, it should still work with the buttons removed. Otherwise the whole thing is toast. This is just dumb.

It would be more plausible if they got inside, the door closed and they saw the broken panel. Then the other guy could have just called up the elevator and they would have been sitting ducks.
