In theory he can do daily driving on electricity from solar panels, saving the gasoline for emergencies when he needs to drive long distances. Unfortunately there are two problems with this.

  • The amount of solar panels you can put on a car can only generate enough energy to move an EV or PHEV about 5 miles per day. Granted, you can leave the car parked several days and only drive it once in a while. Or bring a huge bank of extra solar panels and plug it in. But the mobility from only rooftop solar panels is pretty restrictive.
  • Gasoline degrades over time. Unless you've added stabilizers, after about a year it's pretty much won't run an engine anymore (its combustion characteristics have changed too much). A lot of zombie apocalypse shows make this mistake too. Technically you can keep it indefinitely if you isolate it from the air. But because of how much it vaporizes with changes in temperature, nearly all fuel tanks and fuel cans have a vent hole to equalize pressure. So unless you've stocked up on stabilizers beforehand, you're only looking at about a year of usability. Diesel is a better option. It's more like vegetable oil and can last 5+ years (unless algae starts growing in it).
The best thing about a hybrid in our world is that it lets you avoid running the ICE motor in inefficient states (e.g. starting from a dead stop). The peak efficiency band of an electric motor is much broader than an ICE motor. So you can use the electric motor to move the car in situations where the ICE would burn a lot of fuel for little effect. Combined with regenerative braking (though that only recovers about 30%-35% of the energy), that's why hybrids get much better mileage ratings than a pure ICE. Starting from a dead stop is especially brutal for ICE motors.
true

there is one thing we need to take into consideration too: it's another world, so we don't know if that science applies.

This whole convo made me realize how much fun it would be to research what would happen with cars and their inner workings in another world, if it would exist xD

Also for anyone wondering there are 27 raw chapters (each chapter has a part 1 & 2) as of 09/06/2024
gib link, since that would mean translation will be heavily delayed (3 translated vs 27 non-translated, wtf?)

i would much prefer to do machine translation and read it that way rather than wait who knows how long

Chronicles of Amber (by Roger Zelazny). MC is part of the royal family who have the power to travel through the multiverse by gradually shifting through adjacent worlds (similar but slightly different worlds) until they reach their desired world. The primary ("real") world is Amber, and Earth is just a shadow.

But physics changes as you shift to different worlds. So Earth cars run rougher the further you shift from the Earth shadow, and eventually stop working altogether. This becomes a plot point later. Nobody has been able to find an explosive which works in Amber. Meaning there is no equivalent to gunpowder, so all wars are waged with swords and sorcery. Until MC tosses a dirty rag in the fireplace and it explodes...

Ha, so he go randomly time travel in the same world :) sound like he found the mother of kyara/his wife/his over/his granddaughter (of kyara)/ (?)
If so, the story will be a little better.

Yeah if he doesn't take a proper control over his abilities, this would quickly become a tragic story for every girl he meets and maybe for himself. It's a curse wrapped as a gift if he decides to mingle with locals. Creating family or long term lovers is a taboo in these kind of stories.
Other world for "fun", real world for life. Or he can always abandon his car and live in the other world but in case of MC he is useless without his car...So it's a yeah.....

Also if MC already understood in chapter 13 that this is Kyara then he must have understood other complications regarding his abilities but i suspect author will pull ignorance card until MC faces real problems.

This is not bad at all. I didn't like the MC at first, but it seems he learns from his mistakes, which isn't all that common in an isekai.
And with the time travel shenanigans I guess the female love interests are going to be of age, though popping in three days at a time randomly all over the timeline isn't what I'd call a stable relationship...

I can't get past that the first thing the MC does when finding someone collapsed in front of his car, that he believe he might have hit while sleep-driving, is not checking if they're OK or try to call for help, but running away and checking there's no collision mark to incriminate him. That's vile.

So far it seems rly interesting. Kind of a Dr Who and River Song vibe with the romance which is interesting and i havent seen it in manga before so im very curious to see where it goes.

Lemmy Kilminster could have said that there's nothing better than a guitar as a chick magnet, except a big car. This manga is basically the impersonation of that sentence.
This started rather well and the first chapters with the beast girl were nice, then came the loli, then the harem and judging by the raws up to chapter 32, this becomes more and more generic, male teenager-targeted nonsense.
I'll probably drop here.

I skipped this one initially because I don't like hybrid cars. Came back to read it and found it okay. Weirder than being isekai'd with your car is somehow going back to the office and getting fired up to shuffle papers. It's not something I've really seen anything else in the genre do, and for good reason, but I can appreciate it nonetheless. Final verdict: It's alright, just get rid of the girls and bring in some women.
