@mage_goo It most definitely is, and that's because it's usually foreshadowing an arc where they return to earth or some people they know end up in the other world in the LN.

Maybe doing that helps people self-insert more? And it usually results in another harem archetype(Childhood friend, little sister, etc) which would boosts sales...

I can only guess at the reasoning behind the trope being overused.

can someone please explain to me why Mr basically-a-nobody in their original world suddenly gets isekai'd, learns OP skills/magic, and gets hot girls, but still wants to go back for some reason?
ok, so in THIS series he was kinda OP martial artist in modern earth equivalent, BUT in a modern world martial arts only gets you so far in real fights cause guns bombs drones etc or it can be used for MMA to get $$$ for exhibition matches but you still end up limited in life choices (plus you become a little rich and famous so you have to be mindful of your public image and make sure not to do anything people can sue you over or anything ambiguous that people can then claim was bad thing to sue over...people suck...)
so much better to stay in the world of swords and magic, explore a whole new world and enjoy harem life, no?
