In the LN they met in the town, the main trio simply enters the inn where the two girl works as waitresses.
It doesn't even make sense for them to leave the town! The mangaka changed it to add this "rope/plank bridge in disrepair over the gorge" cliché...

Right? I mean, the two of them wouldn't have been enough of a party, but they go out into the forest essentially doing a harvesting job that they could have done through the guild.

While technically they are registered at the adventurer's guild, they have zero experience outside of the city (yet). They spawned literally in the city (in an alley). While registering at the tiny guild of Sarstedt they faced such reality, that the local guild hardly has any adventurer related work. They did work as waitresses from day one.

Outside Yuki being too big (body and boobie wise), another thing to complain about is they didn't mention their early day in the town which might have some importance later because it caused both Yuki and Natsuki having lifespan way longer than elves would.

Not only all of that, the LN says they couldn't afford any weapons due to the high cost of living in that town. I think Natsuki just had a sharpened stick as a spear, as a recent purchase, by the time the trio find them.
