So. To save on fuel on boiling up the potion solution they use alcohol, because it has a lower boiling point. So they mix the solution eith a spirit with 93% alcohol content. The whole plan was to find another use for his large amount of the herb, in other words mass production. But they need heat to distill the alcohol anyway for gods sake!

Thats what I was thinking, why doesn't this MC just use wood and/or coal for fuel......

I wasn't sure if the issue was the fuel cost of boiling water down, or the cost of the water. Both options make no sense to me. (Use the hot springs)

Even if the alcohol is easier to evaporate, making it would require more energy than boiling water.

Frankly, they need a method to capture the alcohol escaping, and then it might have some semblance of efficiency.

I was thinking they'd slash themselves like some other mangas and they'll pour the potion on the wound. This one's more reasonable I guess.

That's where I tohught they were gonna go too, I'm still not sure why the MC doesn't trust the appraise ability though as it tells him if somethings bad. Guess we have to have comedy/drama/stakes somehow huh.

Time to make a moonshine still
Demographic: Shounen...

I somehow doubt they will/are allowed to tell Young'uns how exactly to make a still, or what to do with it... ;)
The method depicted is bonkers and wildly off, inaccurate, and downright silly. Deliberately so, by the looks of it.

Remember, kiddo's... Actual distillation is a tad harder to do right than you got taught in Highschool, and the "Innocent Stuff" you concentrate may well be a tad more dangerous than you thought. Especially when mucking about with herbal extracts...

Then again... I'm a firm believer in Applied Darwinism, so..... :devilish:

sure, there was no need to use a whole barrel of alcohol but... why did he bring half the potion? He could have just poured it out...

Sake? lmao medieval period and isolated japan and they know about sake 😂

Just give me tatami, soy sauce, rice and sushi and it'll be complete. Oh wait don't forget about hot springs.

I'm gonna bet that in the raw, the mc said "alchool" in english, then Mercia asked "do you mean alchool?" Not Oo-sake, the rice wine, but the general word "sake" which just mean alchool in general.

Or even partner with the smelters and use their waste heat. They need intense heat to work metal but boiling needs only moderate heat.

Still, they should experiment with conditions to extract the active ingredient of the herb. It may be that water and heat are actually degrading a lot of the activity. Maybe it extracts better with alcohol or acid. Also vacuum could give more efficient evaporative effect (a method used for maple sap to save fuel)

But if they're not familiar with such processes, these ideas may not occur to them.

Of course we jump straight to human experimentation in early trials. Why would we waste time on chemical analysis, animal testing, or any other sort of research, when there are sick people right there who can't fight back to try and stop us? /s
