I can see it now, the MC was given a communication device meant to be the backbone of a planetary-wide communication array. Discovering this, he makes even more money establishing a telephone/ISP company.

Mc doesnt want the letter, why doesnt he leave it behind, trash it, or burn it?
Thanks to the loli's excitement for visiting that other city, that letter of recommendation is like a summons, once it was in his hand he could no longer claim to not have received it. If he trashes it now and they don't get past the border, he will have to endure loli tears.

What truly matters is the fact that it was given to him.
The guildmaster can then claim (if/when enquired by her superiors) that she recommended him to go to the frontier and she’ll receive commendation for recommending an excellent individual.

Reversely, if she did not recommend him, she could be questioned later on why she failed in recognizing someone excellent.

All in all, she did what she had to do as a guildmaster.

As an aside, knowing the author’s other works, the MC will pass the exam with ease while thinking it was a warm-up or something like that anyway. /shrug

You might want to have a look into wat those things mean, and how they're treated, in japanese society...

Basically, now that he has been confirmed to have received it, he simply has to use it. Not doing so, or ignoring it would be... "Extremely Impolite", to put it mildly.

If he doesn't use that letter he's going to be on that Guildmaster's shit-list forever, and she has enough influence to make his life as an Adventurer hell.

I mean, this is a pretty paint-by-numbers isekai, as soon as he brought up trying to fail the exam we all knew he'd breeze through it.

Haha, true that. I just felt like mentioning it because this author has so many series with similarly “aloof” MC at different settings.
Interestingly they’re distinct enough to not be stale.

he's not even in japan so regardless of social norms, she still gave it to mc unsolicited so it's just a matter of not giving a fuck considering it was rather forced. so by that logic, what she did was much more impolite than the mc not giving the letter to its designated receiver. of course only if the mc has the unconventional brain to criticize societal bs.

although mc might be your generic mc who is easily a pushover, i don't think she would really do that considering she knows mc's worth and strength

Well, the author is Japanese, so most likely it's unintentional. But it looks like the author cannot distance themselves too far from Japanese culture.

i highly doubt it's unintentional lol but it's just kinda sad that there's no self-awareness about it and mc's just rolling with it like your typical pushover mc. #Sadge
also, with self-awareness in mind, he doesn't feel alive since he's just going with the flow.

" only dead fish go with the flow "
