I really don't understand why Minato or any main characters in a story want to hide their power level so much. It would clear up a lot of misunderstandings if they just tell people the truth. Not like anyone can force a op MC to do something they don't want to do.

Because it's the "one vs many" rule, no matter how strong you are there is an eventual point where sheer numbers will be able to take you down. Plus you'll have to stay on guard 24/7, while you're eating/sleeping/taking a shit/jerking off/etc. which will wear you down mentally until your go insane (which leaves you vulnerable) or commit suicide.

He isn't really hiding his power. He just isn't show it off. He did just used powerful magic to remove the cuffs in front of the guild member and he also used earth magic to dig a big tunnel. It's also suspicious how powerful he is because in that world, as said, magicians are usually support not attackers.

...Yeah, I don't think it will go THAT far. And I'm not saying to show off to everyone, just those that he can trust.

If Minato doesn't want to show off then he's really doing a poor job of it. Might as well tell the guild at least that he knows how to improve the magical circuits

this is some bullshit, they arrest him, steal his shit, threaten him and we're just suppose to sweep it under the rug "tehe i'm quirky, i actually did it for your sake" MC stop being a doormat and let there be some consequences for this treatment, you just saved their city and all their lives and this is the reward you get...

true. doesn't matter how "dangerous and suspicious" they think the mc is, it doesn't justify this bs charade

Is Minato really a mature worker? Since I thought it was quite naive to think "Oh I'm arrested without any reason huh? Alright then", "Of course this gem is free, use it, I don't need any achievement after jumping to a nest full of monsters". Like what?

This doesn't really apply to this story because of what everyone's already said but for other stories, the mc being op is contingent on the mc hiding their power. Being open about their abilities would get them in situations that their powers either don't actually solve or they are merely a match for. If it was actually known how strong an mc is then the people who come to challenge them would be appropriately strong/prepared rather than some random cocky dude. At that point, they aren't op anymore and we have a story with actual stakes and conflict.

Consider how it is with Guts. Guts is not op. He could wipe the floor with humans but that's not what his actual opponent. He fights demons strong enough to force his body to be torn apart just to win. He punches up. Op mc's mostly punch down. Aside from the most ridiculous stories about the most ridiculous 'cheat skills', there would be someone who could take them down someway somehow initially. So they hide and only pick the easy fights.

again, though, nothing to do with this story.

you do realize at the time of his arrest they had circumstantial evidence that he was a member of the terrorist group that had JUST A FEW HOURS AGO tried to destroy the city right? Sure they doubted it, but with his level of power its better to take action first and then ask for forgiveness once the truth comes out.

Rather than doormat, MC is someone that don't want to hassle and de-escalate the situation if possible.
Look at his convo with the guy, he refused to actively help, just ok if he see anything suspicious.
Sure, the treatment is stupid but if it get things done with less hassle, why not.

Let's talk about it in a more mundane way. You are an employee at a company. News come out that you're very capable. What do you think will happen next?

1. You get promoted and get higher pay.
2. You get more responsibilities.
3. You get used.

Chances are, all three will happen. Sure you might get promoted, but there is a higher chance that your immediate supervisor will make use of you for his own benefit before that can happen. As a result for being more capable, your supervisor will naturally give you more responsibilities. Having more responsibilities also mean you are responsible for more things and if things go wrong, you get the blame, even when it has nothing to do with you or the issue was caused by you being overworked. If you're capable, you will definitely get used. In a Japanese black company, you get used more and more the more capable you are, without any additional benefits.

That is also the reason why the individual outlets of corporations do their best to break even when it comes to monthly sales target. If they do too well, their sales target will increase, and at some point it will become unsustainable, and all the employees heavily stressed. If they do not reach their sales target, corporate will go down hard on them, depending on how badly they're doing, and it's not strange for the whole outlet to be closed for not meeting sales target. That's why, if the sales target is $20k for example, the manager would do their best to meet 14k by the middle of the month. And depending on the momentum, would then relax and not work as hard for the other half of the month. So in the end they would either get sales of 18k or 22k. Both are not bad, sure they don't meet the sales target at 18k, but they can make up for it next month. But if their sales target is 20k but their sales are 30k, the sales target will likely be raised to 30k, and that can be very stressful.

So, the authorities turned out to be quite reasonable. Good.
Also, we're already seeing MC in a conflict with a worthy opponent - an AI which can design spells at least on MC's level, maybe better.

and you do realize he was single handedly responsible for saving the people of the previous city and responsible for STOPPING the monster horde and saving this city. he deserves better then being put in jail for being a hero to these people
