Isekai Tensei de Kenja ni Natte Boukensha Seikatsu: "Mahou Kairyou" de Isekai Saikyou

The problem isn’t that this is generic trash isekai. The problem is there’s no stakes. MC is bland and beta, sure but he doesn’t form any connection. He isn’t interesting. He has no struggles. His relationships with supporting characters fall flat. There’s nothing here to hook your interests into.

Mushoku Tensei, Arifureta, the better isekai all have stories that make the MC compelling. Even if the character WAS and asshole in his previous life, or went through hell in the new world, they hook you in. A protagonist needs a journey with tension and genuine threat of loss to make you interested.

Thats where so many of these trash isekai stories fall flat. They don’t do a damn thing to make you care.

Theres a framework here for a good story and the writer has done their best to avoid anything tense or interesting. I wouldn’t waste time on this. 1/10

I just reread this with the chapters that aren’t on this site and this is such a really well done rendition of the very common isekai. The art is incredible, almost all the characters are memorable (Guildmaster Cardiff is fucking peak, and so is the SNIFFA swordsman), and the plot is fairly entertaining (besides the evil organization mobs acting like brainless mobs). Bonus points to all the comedic execution the mangaka interweaved, really fun stuff. I like this a lot, and I think it’s one of the best examples of the brand out there. It’s a shame it releases so slowly but the chapters are all massive so it works out decently well. I hope they delve more into his magic customization, the butterfly fire spell was so beautiful but we haven’t had something like that for a while.
