I mean, if you think about it with the purest of technicalities, the daughter IS quite dead. Her body is being puppeted by this reincarnator, who took over piloting just as the original was about to die. Sure, the reincarnator has access to the original's memories, but it still doesn't change the fact that the original girl is gone.

I think the defining indicator is that she self identifies as Aria rather then her previous otherworlder identity. So at least to me, that means she thinks of herself as the same Aria that was abused and neglected.

The old Aria is gone, while this Aria is a mixture of the old Aria with her previous life's memories and experiences. And since people's personalities are heavily based on people's experiences, that means this is a new Aria that draws on both life's experiences and knowledge.

We are all just bundles of experiences and memories. An argument can be made that anything that negatively tampers with those memories and experiences could be construed as the death of the individual. Or it could just be seen as part of living a life.

I would argue that recovering memories that were always there, is not the death of the old persona, but just another experience upon which the persona will be built.

We don't die if we fall asleep, nor if knocked unconscious. Completely wiping one's memories with no chance of recovery is no different then death, but if you gain a memory from your past life is that really death?
