A bunch of these titles are designed as Self Insert MC fodder. What other Japanese characteristic would you choose to mark your MC as a Special Boy/Girl/Creature/Other for a Japanese Audience? Red Hair occurs naturally in the Japanese Population, but is pretty rare. And without going into racist caricature, there are only so many "distinctive" features that you can use as short hand to identify your MC being distinct from the rest of the population for Isekais.




There's the evil version of this, and the non-evil version. I'm sure a government backed/run organization like the guild, would be amiss to not inform the lord that a black haired person has done something that stood out. Not necessarily to mark him as a problem, just to give the lord a heads up, 'hey, there's a black haired kid, other people might cause problems because of this'. This doesn't mean the lord won't be a problem, just that, this isn't a cut and dry issue.

And his last warning to the kid is, "People who see it, may harbor ill intent towards you". And is Not "Seize that child!".

That's my whole point, nothing about black hair is distinctly Japanese, or even Asian. It's a dominant trait hair color type. It's exceedingly common everywhere humans exist. The MC having black hair in a world of people where black hair doesn't exist doesn't in any way read as them being uniquely Japanese, it just means they are an Earthling, in a weird world where for some reason black hair is a recessive gene unlike on this planet.

But then, we are talking about Japan, a country often so blind to the outside world that many people (not all, to be sure) living there think that speaking their language is something that only people of their heritage are capable of doing, so they react weirdly any time a non-Japanese looking person speaks it. Isekai authors also are probably uniquely withdrawn from society, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of them actually believe that only people in Japan have black hair or something.

I'm curious as to what the lord will do with this piece of news.

This could be a warning as to future problems in Tyre; it could be that people with black hair are descendants of Heros that were summoned; the lord is one of those who believe that those with black hair have some special meaning or attachment to God and wants to own him; or that the Lord of the land arrest and disposes of anyone born with black hair.

I have many theories about why the elf would let the Lord know that a black hair boy lived in the slums of Tyre.

I have read a lot of comments about why the author is making a big deal about the MC having black hair. I personally think that it would be because on Earth where we reside it is the most common hair color, and no-one would care about seeing someone with black hair. However, in this new world where the MC has been reincarnated it is very rare to be born with black hair and if I think about hair here on Earth it could be like someone in Japan being born with true red hair (Japan less than 0.1%).

I'll never get over how hilarious it is for so many Isekai to make black hair some special unique feature. Like, even everywhere outside of Asia black hair is exceedingly common all over the planet. It's like making an isekai planet where the MC has two eyes, but everyone else has 3 just to make two-eyed people feel special.

I think it stems from the high pressure to conform they have: my black hair are exceedingly common, but I don't have the courage to change it to stand out, because standing out is bad. So in my self insert story, having black hair is what will make me unique. What in this world is seen in a negative way, in my story becomes praiseworthy, or a point of strength.
A bit like how being a spineless wet rag lands you a beast-girls harem, or beeing a game obsessed neet will make you the strongest of the world; or how slavery, rape and pedophily are accepted, or even applauded...

Even without that , maybe some kinda hood/disguise would be better tho other than magic i guess you couldn't hide your size/the fact that you're a kid or so

Hmm i think the whole Black Hair came from some "Hero" who was summoned/isekaied from Japan and multiple kingdoms fought over him before crossing the line and he blew them up or something (hence the black hair bring misfortune thing).

Also Jesus Christ Japan and their freaking persecution complex over black hair holy shit (Black hair is literally the most common hair color on Earth) can't they choose something else ?.

It's because they go insane over hair color over there. My kid has strong red streaks in her hair, something i was told would not happen, and apparently people went apeshit over her hair color.

It would make sense at least if there was ACTUALLY a defining trait to justify the whole persecution like horns or unnatural eye colors. But black hair? the most basic trait you can cook up in a fantasy world with anthropomorphic species???????
