the real reason is quite tragic imo.

she has a very low self esteem and is haunted by the memory of her dear friend who sacrificed his life for hers. Her friend was the daughter of the maid but they dressed him up like a girl and managed to pass him off as being marguerite when her mother went to the tea party to their deaths.

from what I remember I believe the maid also died from suicide because of the guilt she had for sacrificing her child.

I think maggot names her kids (the twins) after her friend.

Not the Maid didn't die of suicide.
She was just emotional too broken that her body couldn't handle anymore.
I mean, she sacrificed her son to save her mistress/half-sister's daughter (yeah, the Maid was actually the half-sister of Maggot's mom).

While she and her son never had any misgivings about what they did, the Maid didn't feel helpless on how she couldn't forgive herself for asking her son to sacrifice himself like that.
All these emotions really weakened her and she got ill, and at last died.

There was also the fact that Maggot's mother & Maid both lied to her at some point and said that the Maid was her mother. And that she was treated as the Mistress daughter so as to protect the prince (aka., Maid's son).

Also the actual reason Marguerite changed her name to Maggot was because she believed that she was like a maggot which ate away and destroyed anything it was with, a person rotten to the core.

Yes, more of this story please. Learning his mom's backstory was so awesome, and I love that there's an in-world reason for why she's so overpowered.
