An 80's action star once said that if you are pushed, killing is as easy as breathing.

Seriously, though, Hokage is a half-baked survivalist if he's not ready to defend his own life, and the lives of those important to him. Everybody knows that in anarchy, other humans are your worst enemy. Unless that island has a resident Yautja, the other humans are the primary concern, even more so that diseases, I'd say, in the immediate future. Maybe if that Byakuya didn't exist, things would be different, but since he's there, he and his gang are the number one enemy.

That being said, the dude who got clawed by the tiger has a pretty good chance of dying. Byakuya might not give him much of an opportunity to promptly clean the wound. Even if he got that chance, it might not be effective.

Not sure what part of that pure sentiment is strategy.

Instead of saying "I cannot kill humans" changing it into "the author cannot think of better antagonists, and no kill cliche" would be a better line for me. Just be transparent, no one's buying that idea anymore, not in a subpar story.

Now I could be wrong, and this isn't what the author intended, but to be fair, imo what I think MC meant (or rather, what he should've said instead) is that he's not confident he can kill without a lot of hesitation. And in life or death situations, hesitation is... well, death.

On the flipside, bullies like Byakuya tend to wuss out when it comes to actually crossing the line, so it's entirely possible he would also be unable to pull the proverbial trigger when the time comes. Unless he's completely unhinged, which he could very well be lol

very true. a survivalist who can't kill people is interesting but infuriating and frustrating, and it's easily a risk for the author because this is gonna be a hit or miss. no-kill run in games are interesting as hell but you can only get away with it if you're alone.
it's one thing that he's running away because he can't control himself if in the heat of moment and can't handle the mental aftermath, but it's bs if he just can't make the decision to kill someone even if push comes to shove smh.

if it's a translation error, then i'd be inclined to change my mind but i don't that there's a need to twist mc's word too much. he can't kill even if it means to protect himself as he said so himself.

i don't think so. they already do rapey stuff so it's easy to say he's pretty unhinged af and not only that but he uses meat shields too so killing doesn't bother him that much.

A person like Byakuya will want to kill, as long as he perceives he can get away with it. It's a deserted island, so he obviously will get away with anything. It's the next, natural evolutionary step in his mental development (though you could also call it mental degeneration). Just like a young athlete will start to dream of bigger and bigger competitions, all the way up to the Olympics, if possible. A kid driving a go-cart could easily have images of World Rally Championship or Formula 1 in his mind. Thus Byakuya would want to kill to prove himself he can do it, no problem.

It is a just action, when you take self-defense. No other man can take or even ENSLAVE your life, so you need to defend your life. Rather if you kill them because they are trying to enslave you, that is a just action and your freedom is your just reward.

Defending your God-given life is a virtue in front of God and men.

I know its just a manga but the "survival skills" they use are so unrealistic, and the interactions with the tiger here and ch1 take the cake
