I think that the naming convention of the chapters in this manga unfortunately imply the latter rather than the former. Itai probably exists only to awkwardly suffer for comedic relief.

Hopefully she at least gets a somewhat happy ending at the end of all this though.

Oof yes. I think I dropped Watamote after about 110 chapters. The little trash goblin was just too unlikable and aside from her cool brother nobody else was giving her any negative feedback for her horrible behaviour.
