He isn't a sorry dude anymore, necessarily, depending on how this story will end, because he got a hot girlfriend. Gradually he should sort out his lack of self-confidence as well. But he most certainly was a sorry dude before this. Anyone with such a lack of self-confidence would be. Nothing has suggested he wouldn't have enjoyed having friends. Most people do enjoy having buddies. Some don't need them, that's true, and they are happy without, but nothing suggests the MC is one of them.
