As someone who had been bullied before, the reaction of the protagonist is the most realistic that I've ever since. It's almost impossible to just instantly forgive anyone who made your childhood miserable and left a scar in your heart, they want to revenge, they want to the bully to feel their pain and they would do almost anything to achieve their goal which in this case the protagonist almost risk his life and join the bullies to bully the girl. But sometimes in the process of revenge, through time the scar will heal and eventually they realise they don't want to do that anymore, that's not who they really are and they just want to forget it all. In the latest chapter (c.37) he apologized to her and the boy which is a metaphor for his traumatized childhood has smiled and that mean he want to forget all the bad things she did to him and he did to her to live a happier life.
