It's a good thing Ruri is smart enough not to accept a pity date and slapped him hard enough to straighten his thoughts.

I don't like the MC, but I know where he's coming from so I can't hate him.

That said, it's good to see him taking proper steps into fixing himself each chapter.

She really played the "I feel unsafe, come escort me" card on him. But man, she really just outed herself to not be above lying to manipulate him to come to her. If he had a spine he'd leave after learning she lied to him and wasn't in any danger at all, and she even pointed out how she's taking advantage of his kindness to get him to come there!

Surprisingly he's well aware that the Ruriri he likes is different from the actual person Ruri behind the persona, who's basically a stranger to him. A lot of people parasocially obsessed with idols aren't aware of that fact. But given how she lied to get him to come, I'd at least think he'd have a clue that maybe she's showing him crocodile tears to make her appeal stronger...

I think she was trying to make a point here that he's weak to girls' tears, and if true, then she demonstrated it perfectly. It was likely a test to find out if he'd easily cave to something like that (he did, and offered her a pity date because he's still the same old pushover inside...); He hesitated when she asked if he'll do the same for another girl who would come to him with a teary-eyed confession like she did, and that pause was enough of an answer for her.

I thought that slap would wake him up. Maybe it did, but I suppose he just started thinking about it at a slower pace than I wanted. But he didn't seem to understand that she was mad because he was being insincere and a pushover offering her a pity date and that rubbed me the wrong way. We know she wanted him to genuinely offer her a date because he liked her and not because he felt fear, obligation or pity for her. But the thing is, she got him to come there in a dishonest manner in the first place, so maybe it's just more playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes.

"But the one I don't want to hurt is myself"
Just how much of his "kindness" is actually from fear of getting hurt, I wonder? But now he's getting somewhere at least, right? I think this is a step in the right direction given he's aware of all these things. You say you're stepping up? Show me.

Really loving the development of the MC. I think the focus on gaining self-respect helps separate this manga from the typical, tropey "waaaah all these girls want to date me but I'm saaad please pity me" stories I've seen in the same vein

Don't understand why this manga has low rating.
The story is interesting and the art is good
