With the manga ending at chapter 20, I thought that after Kou said to Ayano that he knew about her notebook, Kou would come to the sudden realization that for their relationship, it doesn't need to be Ayano that confesses, but Kou can just confess to Ayano. Kou doesn't need to die and they have a happy relationship.
