He sent that lunatic after her. That much was obvious by how quickly he jumped in when things went off the rails and she tried to self-actualise.
If she rebooted herself and forced a reincarnation without him, that would ruin all his machinations for this cycle, wouldn't it? So of course he wants to keep her alive and suffering so he can continue to torment her. Who knows, if she had died there without him, she might have been reincarnated separately enough from him to finally be free of his harassment entirely.

Plus it is just annoying how desperate she is to be married that she'll even consider asking the very one who prevents her.
This story is so damned messed up.
