Hi, I disagree. It's true that the covert mandative and the subjunctive mandative have no real semantic difference in a case like this, but I default to the latter when possible, not only for consistency but also because the raws contain a rather formal construction (ますように)

Idk. The sentence flow felt weird when spoken out loud for me like on page 1 panel 1.
Wouldn‘t it flow better with:

“I pray [ I’ll ] be able to get a boyfriend this year!”

instead of

“I pray [ I ] be able to get a boyfriend this year!”

However if it’s supposed to be formal speech then

“I pray [ I would ] be able to get a boyfriend this year!”

but that’s just my take maybe is due not hearing speech like that often of what have you but if whatever is closer to the Source Material is what the translator chooses then I’ll leave it at that. I like the work regardless

It's grammatically correct to omit the "would". I think it's a case of hypercorrection where something that is perfectly grammatical might actually sound wrong.
