I beelieve exaggerated image, Gramps should bee able to see thru stuff like that and he gave no indication of beeing horrified at her appearance, so her ingrained hatred of monsters, instincts telling her something over there is very dangerous and probably fatigue/hunger made her hallucinate the adorable queen bee as more terrifying than she actually is.
