Also I wonder how willing the elfs would be to accept, "one of you got killed and then we froze the whole lot of you but it's ok it allowed us to catch the murderer that was actually a shapeshifter among you" as an explanation. Although maybe that slime didn't yet murder whoever it was replacing, might help clear misunderstanding ? Probably not going to matter anyway, seems he'll try solve the whole thing without the village's cooperation.

Ah, fear-mongering. It never gets old. Of course, that's not to say that such a thing isn't possible. In most works, elves tend to have the most powerful magic, only below dragons and sometimes demons. The only reason it's rarely done in works is because elves tend to be few in numbers.

So even if they are capable of casting magic powerful enough to wipe out armies, being few in numbers means that just assassinating them would be enough to wipe them out. Which would explain the bandits.

The slime is clearly lying - the village in his timeline was already destroyed by the "bandits" previously, so clearly his assination and steering the Elven village to open up did nothing. And how would a village even take over the world, like he claims? They wouldn't have nearly the population for that.
