I don't know if the mangaka had this all planned from the start of the arc (a year ago?) or if they were making it up as they go, but that is actually a well done way to handle time travel. Even better, we have a spare "old hag" out of it.
I do feel very conflicted for Fury, though, since I hate emotional manipulation to a great degree, and this very much is, but I'm going to just let my enjoyment of the time shenanigans overshadow that.

I wonder how they're treating him, it'd be a bit of a dark turn if they were torturing him or something - but also wouldn't he be able to easily break out of a cell? He'd just freeze time and use any utensil to spend days at a time digging.

Depends if there is barrier and I'm pretty sure he can lose his time stop powers without the controller
