ngl i really wanted to work on the rest of vol 1 to see where it'd go. originally, it seemed like a cute manga that would demonstrate the growth of the two characters as their ideals collide and align continuously. as of right now, it's sadly only 1 volume long, 5 chapters total and the author has not released anything else on pixiv comics since 2018. the author might've dropped because of a lack of reaction on the original hosting platform, and it's impossible to find the author on any social media since they deleted their twitter accounts.
ch 1 on its own leaves a bad taste in my mouth because the art is cute but the way we're introduced to the older sister's character sets her up for failure to readers. it's easy to dislike the older sister because of her backwards ass immature reasoning, although i wouldn't stoop so low as to call her a bitch. i don't agree with her opinions but i can't bring myself to dislike her, rather i feel empathetic towards her perspective. she's a preteen who feels increasingly insecure and shy as she sees firsthand her brother sprinting forward to be the most ideal version of himself. she's definitely projecting and doesn't see that she can just as easily choose to be expressive without repercussion or the fear of judgement, but has anyone ever ACTUALLY taught her to express herself?
besides tamamori, nobody's outright told her that it's important to express yourself to your truest self for the sake of your own happiness. her brother suggests she dresses more femininely, but it seems like she took that more as an offhand joke/slight at her "plainness" rather than the underlying message "you're pretty and you should express yourself more". it also doesn't help that japan is a collectivist and not individualist society: standing out is weird and sometimes harmful because of the way everyone tries to put you down for it, self expression is weird because it's seen as an invitation for others to comment on your appearance, life, and even upbringing. if anything, THAT'S what she's learned from hearing all her peers talk about her and her brother. she's only learned that openly expressing yourself leads to criticism.
it's only because i want to hope she changes and becomes more accepting of her brother and/or chooses to be more expressive for herself that i picked this up. plus, it would be nice to see the brother change a little because right now he lacks a bit of consideration for others even if it's admirable that he chooses to express himself so openly. yes, it's good to express yourself, but what if it's at the cost of your loved ones? it's silly to care TOO much about what others think of course, but i think you should do a bit more to take the time to ease the mind of your loved ones or teach others to not be so comfortable with voicing negative thoughts about you and your loved ones.
within 5 chapters of the raw, the sister demonstrates a willingness to change her perspective and grow more accepting of self expression and self love. she becomes compassionate for her brother when someone makes a weird comment about him and reflects on her own faults for previously judging him too. she begins to understand that this isn't just a phase or a disingenuous act from brother, but an actual display of his passions. it's important to realise that we're all capable of changing our opinions, morals, and ethics, and that others are capable of it too.
TLDR: people be judging her way too quickly. judging her so quickly is no different from her or the background characters in chapter 1.
the issue is that i can't find a translator to work on this series with me, so the remaining 4 chapters of this discontinued series will remain untranslated. here are some panels i translated with a translator.
