I never understand some people's obsession with some specific vtubers. I feel this is quite the accurate depiction of such obsession
Agreed. I would go so far as to say the obsession with vtubers as a concept is wierd. Its basically just an ordinary streamer who cant be assed to show their face, so they use an inexpressive model that just sits on the screen to distract from the video. At that point, might as well not have a face or a character on the screen.

He's sooo far gone. There's no saving him.

However, given that Sumika has the biggest cheast of them all, if I'm not mistaken, it's funny how he wanted blondie to wrap hers up :dogkek:
I think the consensus was that she was the second biggest, but because she usually hides them she made a bigger impact.

"so they use an inexpressive model that just sits on the screen"

They've been quite expressive for years.

Also there's a point to be made for anonymity in this day and age...

I have yet to encounter a Vtuber model that is capable of expressing any REAL thoughts or emotions. 'Expressive' just means 'makes the eyes move' or something similar. Nowhere near enough to add anything meaningful to the video. At that point, they might as well go voice only for anonymity for all it adds to the video. Heck, I would argue that they take AWAY from the reaction with their meaningless movements just being a distraction.

Really? Some of them follow the eyes and mouth pretty accurately (including lips, teeth visibility, tongue movements, cheeks), expression wise, and I've seen some that react to the voice and what's being said as well, to change the base expression of the avatar to match the emotions better. Some of the systems are very complex and consist of hundreds of active things. Heck, some do full 3d body tracking for added expressiveness, and include outfit physics to go along with that.

Not saying that's most of them of course, but the cutting edge of those systems is to me very impressive and interesting, and having related to other fields like vr, TelePresence etc.
