Understood. I see your point. Yeah, the side characters in this time haven’t done much either.

I think I’d have rather followed Mashiro post-rape. Like okay, somehow she escapes. Now she’s on the run or building a resistance inside the dominator home world. We’re hiding underground. It’s now no longer a mecha manga, and that also means that when win finds Mashiro, mashiro isn’t there. So that’s not what’s going to happen.

But I like the idea of the underground resistance always on the run and doing guerrilla warfare with no mechs against this empire. There’s a bigger sense of dread/tension on every mission. Maybe their cover/disguise gets blown. Maybe someone finds the hideout. Maybe someone in the resistance is a spy. Etc. you got caught once, it can happen again. The way you escaped last time…the dominators fixed that particular flaw. The same trick won’t work again. Maybe you won’t escape next time. Etc.

Having Mashiro still be the lead after being raped/captured gives us much more emotion. It allows us to see a new aspect of her character. How does she deal with this? Like, it’s a bad thing in hentai where rape is just a thing that is either completely glossed over and the characters just move on like nothing happened, or the victim is just immediately a mind-broken slave. There isn’t much dealing with how victims of trauma deal with trauma. Even Beserk, the story that people say uses rape the best for Guys’ motivation, still just made Casca completely nonexistent as a character for 20+ years and failed to develop her. You could have told the story of a survivor going through the difficult process of overcoming what happened. We could see that process, instead of what I fear will happen: that we skip straight to the end.

And you can have the “I sense win is alive” as this thing in the background. She’s sending out secret messages. There’s signs that maybe win is… but no win isn’t. People start to doubt Mashiro. Maybe she’s gone a little crazy. Maybe she can’t deal with the “fact” that win is dead. Maybe it’s better if someone else took over the group. Etc etc.

God damn, I know that there’s the “I made this up so I like it better” fallacy but doesn’t that sound more interesting than everything win has done thus far?

I really think switching away from Mashiro was a mistake. Even if the end result of the OG series was she gets captured, you could have still followed her post-capture.

It also doesn’t help that win as a human acts nothing like win as a mecha. Complete character assassination there. Like, you could have had the “crusty old veteran” aspect of her in the body of a girl as a purposeful clash between looks and being. Instead they just cut that aspect out entirely.

Sigh.

Edit: one more idea… which will likely happened eventually anyway. Part of Mashiro’s journey can be reuniting with dark Mashiro.

Somewhere in the comments it's said that dark Mashiro was killed when Mashiro was captured. But idk. 👽

To defend Berserk: Casca was so traumatized by the event that she couldn't recover; The event, particularly the rape and insemination/corruption, didn't just damage/wound her, it effectively killed her. There was no ability to deal with it. It's intentionally meant for her to be nonexistent as a character, because everything that happened took such a strong woman and completely shattered her. The trauma of the event likewise significantly damaged Guts, leading him to going on a self-destructive rampage. They both were broken, in similar but distinct ways.
Note: I stopped reading right after Casca came back. It took magical, near divine, intervention just to get her back to a recognizable state. And even still she's so terrified of Guts that she can't even look at him.
🧐

The film Irréversible is often used in discussions about the use of rape in stories. Suffice it to say but I don't think any fair reading of this series would be that it isn't being used for anything other than titillation. It's actually quite irritating how often manga authors really on rape as a crutch, either for that or for drama.
This series is another one that I stumbled across (along with this mecha one) for similar reasons. Typical fluffy rom-com until the author decided suddenly to have one of the three MCs getting gang-raped in a public bathroom for a month.
😡

I like to cite one particular series due to it actually handling the subject well. The author seems to do pretty well handling atypical subjects. Made me a fan because of it.

Yeah well, dark Mashiro’s existence and “death” are both from magical bs so they can magical bs her back.

I mean thematically the dominators took something away from mashiro, be it her virginity, her happy life, her vengeance, etc. Dark Mashiro is a visual representation/metaphor of what’s been taken from her. Being able to reconnect and reclaim her from them is a very important part of building her back up. It takes away dominator control of her life. She takes her life back.

It’s kind of thematically important to the character.

I suspected Winvein before, since it's been called Star Type 2, and Nigou means Two. Winvurga is Star Type 3. So both Winvein and Nigou are her seniors.
But Moribito 2 never crossed my mind, despite Akao, Ryohei's silhouette, and the Supreme Commander using a Moribito projection all being present in the story.
If it turns out Nigou is Winvein though, I think there's a good chance the Supreme Commander is a reincarnated form of Moribito 2 that got mindbroken after whatever caused the Jinki universe to become the Winvurga universe/Akao. I guess we will just have to wait and see though

Latest chapter… and damn it we are having a flashback inside a flashback.

Also now are trying to pull a “it’s her fault for getting pregnant because she kissed Zane?” Really? He held out until she kissed him? Oh my fucking god.

It’s like this series finds more and more ways to just be so annoying.

You misunderstood the chapter (40)...

As we know, that woman is trying to make the strongest pilot by making Hibana and Zane make a baby together. But they were being sweet to each other so she went inside and started hurting Hibana to see her cry and get mad. But instead, Hibana laughed it off and mocked her title as Master Breeder. Zane followed up, stating that sex is done by a man and a woman together; which reminded that woman of Dolman's principles. So she's the one who gets mad instead and walks out on them.

After she exits the room, Zane starts crying because all he ever does is get Hibana hurt (the scar on her face was from their battle). He then confesses that he's been in love with her (which explains why he easily refused a disillusioned Mashiro's advances). But then he also says he doesn't love her anymore because of their current situation (to which Hibana scolds him, telling him not to say things that will hurt her).

Hibana proceeds to tell Zane her plan. They're gonna play along with the villain's plan and willingly make a baby together. Because the baby is highly guaranteed to be strong. She hopes the baby will become Mashiro's ally and protector one day. So that even if the two of them die, they can pass on their feelings to the baby. And then she kisses Zane, who immediately loses his control. Hibana wasn't shocked that he released inside her; she's only shocked at the amount and continuous flow.

Chapter 40:

Maybe Hibana is the author's favorite. First, she is already stated to be loved by robots. Now, her fall arc is tame by comparison because Zane is the partner. Which doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things with how unhinged this manga is...

Now, who do you guys think the black haired woman at the end of the chapter is?

I'm betting it's Yomi, since someone needs to storm the facility to rescue the baby eventually (that teaser is too early for that, though?). But she's supposed to be Nect's captive, so she either escaped or he's really playing the good guy even now just to stick with Yomi. Schreiger can also mess with people's minds so that could help with breaking through security.

Maybe. But it’ll be about 3 years before we get anywhere with this. We’re on berserk time as we catch up on all the flashbacks of every single character. And it doesn’t help that we’ve had 3 full months thus far and it’s just been “hey they’re captured… hey they’re still captured and … guess what they’re still captured.”

We honestly could have done everything with this flashback in 1 chapter. Same with Mashiro’s flashback. The pace of rebellion is very prolonged compared to the original. The original routinely got a fight, sex, development, etc all in 1 chapter. It was a much tighter-paced product.

First flashbacks, then dominators attacking win’s group. They’re gonna have to flee because of magic bs powers. So then hiding and trying to find whoever has the 3rd power. Then, and only then do we have a chance to move the ball rolling with actual plot progression

Okay, and the more I think about this plan, the less sense it makes.

Ignoring the fact that in order for this plan to succeed, they have to wait 15-16 years minimum for their child to grow up.

How is your child going to find Mashiro? And even if your child does, they grew up in the dominator homeworld. They’ve been indoctrinated their entire life in the dominator way.

So your plan is what? Hope the dominators are nice and let you have custody of your child and you get to tell them how to rebel? Why would the dominators do that? How would your child even know that you are their parents? You two are strapped together as breeding stock for the rest of your lives. If your child ever does see you, it’ll be in a “and this is what we do to traitors” example as they make their way up the ranks. They won’t know you; they’ll just see two bodies strapped to machines.

I mean, obviously the plan worked; but the plan is still bull shit.

Also, just one kid? Not half a dozen? For 15 years they’ve been breeding stock and…just that one?

Someone has to rescue these two for that to make any sense. And Mashiro. I’d much rather be watching the escape attempts than anything involving win’s group. That’s the interesting story. Mashiro and friends, now without a mech, trapped in the dominator homeworld, need to hide in the tunnels and lead a resistance, always one step away from getting captured again. Etc etc.

Time in each Void runs differently. They're at Void Avern, Dominator home Void. It's supposed to be among the slowest. In order to maximize the breeding of new pilots, the Dominators would want to bring the babies to a Void that runs faster so they can grow up faster than if they're kept inside Avern. It doesn't take 15 years from Hibana's POV for Shinka to age for 15 years, if that's the case.

Since Void Avern likely runs much slower than Nigou's Void, it's also likely that Win's group would arrive there in a lot less than 15 years after they were all captured.

Yeah, the plan is full of holes. But given the situation, she thought they might as well do it on their own terms and put all their hopes on the baby. It'll inevitably happen either way. Zane can't hold it in forever, and that woman's gonna torture Hibana more and more if she can't get what she wants.

I’d argue that if the plan is full of holes you shouldn’t shove your characters into that situation to begin with. If the plan succeeds, it’s a total ass pull and only happened because the author wanted it. If the plan fails, the characters are just idiots. Both outcomes are negative.

I swear, people made way more sense in the first series.

That's awfully convenient and sorta diminishes his dynamic with win for me, same with majiko/mashiro uncle I can see it hibana/Zane but their relationship only being blossomed by a couple of lines feel such a cop out he could easily build them up or bonding while being capture or trying to escape i won't the og manga was perfect but it's mind-boggling that rebellion just makes even less sense butchering the og manga while trying to make sense

It's hilarious that HIbana namedropped the series by saying,"This is our Rebellion!" I want someone to say,"Winvurga, this is your Rebellion!" next.

Continuing where we left off, Zayne has a flashback to when he and Nect visited Dollman at a brothel. Dollman brought all the prostitutes that get turned on when they get watched. Zayne notices that all the girls look happy, compared to the miserable sights he's seen when the average Dominator has sex. Dollman tells Zayne not to lump him in with the other Dominators, because when he has sex, he's doing it because he loves them.

Hibana doesn't understand why she is feeling pleasure when every act of sex she's seen so far has been violation, but realizes it's because it's Zayne having sex with her. Evil lady starts anal probing Hibana and whipping her but it turns out that Hibana is a hardcore masochist, as she is enjoying it. Zayne tells evil lady that Hibana has already experienced a lot of pain so something like this is nothing. Zayne mimics Dollman by saying sex is for two people to enjoy.

Gonna stop here because TaurusRex already explained what happens above.

Honestly, the fact that Zayne loves Hibana now is kind of an asspull. I had a feeling something like this would happen last chapter but seeing it happen is different lol. Maybe Tsunashima was planning to do this from the very beginning but doesn't have enough time to explore it. From what I remember from OG Winvurga, there was never any indication that Zayne had any feelings for Hibana.

I would be very surprised if it's not Yomi. The hairstyle is literally Yomi too. Don't think Tsunashima would leave that as a cliffhanger if it wasn't her.

That is so forced.

Look, and I like when the lord of the rings movies name drop their titles. But they did it way more naturally.

But okay, sure. The man who has done nothing but demand that he be the one to sleep with Mashiro, actually loves someone else and discovers that in 30 seconds. Fine. It’s bs, but fine.

Okay, so getting raped and pregnant… which is exactly what the dominators want… is your rebellion. Fine. Whatever.

This also means we’re going to get like 6-7 more offspring/second generation characters to match up with the original crew. So… more flashbacks to go through before the plot even begins again. Fine. Whatever.

I am amazed at how badly this sequel series has fumbled the ball. The original honestly wasn’t bad porn. It was extreme porn, but it was better than all the low effort isekai harems out there. But this? it’s like each issue is a new way to just piss away whatever good will remains.

This series peaked with Mashiro getting raped. That was the bad end. Should have just started the series with that and cut to them all with big bellies in birthing machines.

Though… once again, if we’re going to have even more “rebellions” created… that does mean we’re going to be seeing even more of the OG cast and they’re probably going to be the actual leads.

Win is a pointless side character. it’s going to be so hilarious when, 50 issues from now, she’s only been in 20 of her own series. I mean sure, her magic futa will save the day, but that’s just because of magic bs.

Sigh.
