This actually reminded me of what happened at my time in the university. One of the lecturer was accused (but I believe it was slander instead) of sexual harrassment and got suspended. I couldn't believe my eyes when there was announcement asking for victims to move forward if there were more in my year's group. I worked together with him very closely for a semester and while he was a bit annoying how he came up with various ideas for me and my team to implement, especially for me since I was the leader, he is just pure, almost childlike. His passion for science and engineering is immense, and because of that, he can be persistent and that was how things went as they were. He contacted a female student asking about how his class was and since he doesn't have good look privilege, he got reported and suspended. It was so unfair that the member of my team who hated working under him was genuinely pissed off and ranted about it. My team didn't like working under him except me because thought despite he was a bit of slave driver, he was the most caring about us and all the things he came up with was still under our jurisdiction anyway, but all of us agreed that as a member of academia, we respect him.

Anyway, I'm glad I chose to trust him at the time and not get swept by the waves. Sure, he got suspended at the end but it was just for calming the crowd, not a genuine punishment. I missed him contacting me in the middle of the night asking me about a philosophical question or challenging me and my team to solve a problem out of nowhere. I once won a bet enough for me to eat good for 3 days lol. It was practically a robbery. He doesn't do that anymore, probably because of the whole harrassment thing, and if I think about it, it is painful to see.

Probably the only good thing about the whole slander was that the departement's reporting system is good enough that the "victim" of "sexual harrassment" is perfectly hidden until now. Not even my friend who was a high ranking member of student council(? idk the word in english) heard anything, even the vaguest rumor, about who was it. That part deserved praise, at least.
