FYI, the Flehmen Reaction only occurs in animals with a vomeronasal organ, which is situated above the roof of the mouth, with a duct opening right behind the upper front teeth. Most people are familiar with it from their house cats, but tigers, tapirs, rhinos, hedgehogs, and zebras among other animals also exhibit this behavior.

Apparently, since the flehmen response is only exhibited when animals smell things, usually pheromones used to mark territories and curl up their nose area and hold for several seconds to "investigate" the scent
