It's probably easier to get around the pronouns by sticking to the Japanese "MangaDex's father" and the like.I would suggest using they/them as the pronouns that the mother is using, granted she knows the difference at wouldn't use them it makes more sense then using the specific gender in this case.

Japanese people barely use her/him in casual speechThere is no way the entire family never use any pronouns to call her after all these days. It's just way too unrealistic.
