I'm starting to think that "barrier" is just an awkward translation for a Japanese term that doesn't really translate well.

Probably something like "kekkai" or whatever it was. There was some other anime all about them a while back, so I'm betting it is the same term... but it probably translates to something like "absolute domain" or somesuch in this context.

Just an observation but two synonyms to knotting could be either knitting or tying, since they all effectively mean "to join things together".
As in "tying worlds together" or "knitting worlds together"... which makes sense in story since his TV/PC is tied to the internet back on our side.
