If Abdul stays dead, I think having him die to such a typical evil abomination, one of the many that they see on their journey, makes a point that no one is safe. In that way I think his death made a huge mark on the fact that we should always worry about the heroes.

So everyone probably knows by now that Avdol isn't dead, he was supposed to die but Araki changed his mind and kept him alive

Also Kakyoin saves the day again and help Polnareff to finally get his revenge
